Scarlett's First Days

Scarlett's first days were joyful and challenging at the same time. We were learning how to get into our new routine (what routine?) and adjusting to our new life with this little one. I am grateful for Andrew who immediately made sure that Scarlett and I were "out and about" and quickly learned how to just simply - get out of the house. Scarlett was immediately a great eater and a good sleeper. While she did get up throughout the night, she took well to bouncing on a ball and me swaying her in the middle of the night.

I remember the hardest moment was going back to the lactation center / new mom and baby center at Overlake and having a meltdown - thank goodness for Nurse Leslie who reassured me that everything I was feeling was normal, that Scarlett and I had a great bond, and that our feeding routine was good. It was the only "dark period" that I had after I'd had Scarlett, which I am so grateful for. It is amazing how those hormones can kick in as the body is adjusting post labor.

The first week, Andrew and I did struggle a bit with the crying. It was something I didn't quite expect and every time Scarlett cried it would send me into a high-anxiety mode. Together, Andrew and I were patient and I remember one moment where we both just sat on the coffee table with Scarlett in her bouncer (screaming at the top of her lungs) and we just stared at her telling her that she was ok and holding her hand letting her know that we were here for her.
