The Gift of Giving

This past month we've been busy getting out and about in our city! Earlier this month we attended a rock n' roll themed fundraiser for the Hope Heart Foundation in south Seattle at a very cool venue - one of the best charity events I've been to! Smashmouth performed at the event and we had a very fun time.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, we decided to check out the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation welcome center. It was incredibly inspirational and humbling. Both Andrew and I commented on how the legacy of these two individuals will forever be grounded in their work for humanity. One of the things that resonated with me was a video on why Bill and Melinda are focusing their efforts and doing what they do with their wealth. Both of them said that at an early age their parents fostered the value of "giving to others" and they witnessed their parents being heavily involved in the community. I couldn't agree more. Andrew and I try to stay as involved in the community and giving back as much as we can - but there's always room to do more. My mantra for this year is "to whom much is given, much is expected." So, we're focusing on new and different ways that we can make a difference.

This picture was taken and posted on a huge wall at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a way to symbolize all people coming together for the common good. We thought it was a great picture of the two of us!

Here we are last weekend getting ready to head out the door for the annual Junior League gala. The dress I'm wearing is a vintage piece from my step-grandmother, Ria, from Switzerland - another fabulous gown to add to my growing collection. (who knew I'd become the gown collector that I am!?)
