A Thanksgiving in Paradise

A few months ago we decided to make the journey west to Hawaii to get some warm sunshine in the middle of the rainiest month in Seattle. It was a first for us both! Here we are at the Hawaii airport after arriving via Hawaiian Airlines, which is the last remaining airline to provide a full meal - free - on your flight!

We arranged to have lei's given to us on arrival - to get in the Mahalo spirit!

The one mistake we made on the trip was not renting a car the entire trip. So, we cabbed it most of the time. It took us an hour to get to our resort at beautiful Kapalua!

Immediately, we both were impressed by how beautiful the resort is - which exceeded our expectations.

Our two-story condo was beautiful and had the most amazing views.

A breathtaking view from our patio.
On Wednesday night, after arriving, we had a delicious dinner at the Plantation restaurant at the Kapalua Plantation golf course. The fresh fish was delicious.

The next day, Thanksgiving morning, we decided to take a submarine ride. This little tug boat helped guide us to our submarine.

Here comes the submarine emerging from beneath the water...

The Atlantis has arrived.

Here we are inside the submarine. A very neat experience. We even got to see a sleeping shark at the bottom of ocean and some beautiful schools of fish. We submerged 128 feet - and saw sunken ships and other interesting sealife.

After the submarine ride, we walked around Lahaina and saw this Banyan Tree, which when planted was only 8 feet tall, but now spreads out over a 2 acre space.

For Thanksgiving dinner, we took a cab to the other side of the island and had Thanksgiving dinner at the Wailea Golf Club. Our cab driver was great and took us to the nearby shopping mall, and even waited for us after our dinner to take us back. We joked that he was our personal island chauffeur.

On Friday, we had a lovely day golfing the Plantation Golf Course at Kapalua. We can't wait to watch the Hyundai tournament and see the course we played! It was absolutely amazing.

On most days, we walked down this street over to the spa. One of my favorite things about this resort is the amenities including the shuttle service and gorgeous spa facility.

We stayed at the Ridge condos - and loved the location and our condo. We'll be back!

On Saturday night, we went to a luau in Lahaina. It was a sit-down style luau and was very nice - for first timers, it's a must-do.

One of the things that really struck me about Hawaii was how truly relaxing it was. Laying on the beach and relaxing at the spa became a daily routine.

Here's Andrew braving the waves with the surfers and snorkelers.

Beach time!

Our view from the spa and the infiniti pool - this spot became our routine for resting and relaxation.

Loving my sleep time under the palm trees.
